Our Ministries

Pre Schools

Since its arrival in Japan in 1949, SS.CC. has been involved in running pre-school programs, known originally as kindergartens. At that time, there was a great need for these facilities because the children had no place to prepare for elementary school.

Elder Care

As years passed, SS.CC., in response to a need in Japanese society, helped build a nursing home. We have extended it to provide care for the elderly who need convalescent care and have added an adult day care center.

Child Care for Working Mothers

We also run a nursery school in Yamagata City. To assist working mothers with very young children, it is open until late in the evening.

Support for People Struggling with Addictions

We minister to people with drug addictions by providing them space to meet in almost all of our parishes. Many leaders of rehabilitative groups receive our pastoral counseling and have chosen to become Catholic. Several of our SS.CC.’s also are in demand to give talks to the parents and families of the participants in the drug addiction rehabilitation programs.

Ministry to people in detention centers

In Ushiku City there is a detention center that houses 700 inmates who have overstayed their period of stay in Japan.  Frs. Fernando Abalos and Alfredo Garcia began ministering to those in this detention center, and we continue their good work on a weekly basis.
