Congregation
of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary
Fathers' Day 2008
Dear Friends of Sacred Hearts Missions,

Blessed Fr. Damien
of Molokai, ss.cc. |
Soon
we will celebrate Father’s Day and, like Mother’s Day, it
should be every day—not just once a year!
It was every day with Jesus. His life was to do the will of
His Father. It could be so correctly expressed that He had
His Father’s heart. He loved unconditionally, forgave
without limit and was willing to put His life on the line
for those whom He loved...and He loved all.
This is the image and model of all who are baptized, “to
have Hearts like our Father.” And the mission of the
Father’s heart in Jesus, who gives to the world His Sacred
Heart, is also to love and forgive and serve and bring all
God’s children to safety and home.
To the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, especially created
to make manifest in special ways the love so passionately
expressed in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate
Heart of Mary, is the joy of being in mission to love and
serve with “hearts of our Father”, who is God. The beautiful
images of the Sacred Heart show it burning with love,
willingly pierced, surrounded by thorns, yet so alive and
vibrant that it still burns with love. This too is the image
and road map of our lives through Sacred Hearts Missions, to
burn with zeal for the will of the Father in all places and
to all people. Even though that seems like an impossible
task, we try to make it real by our prayer, our love, our
service and our works...and this, done with all the
resources we can muster. We can not do it all, but we can do
all that we are able and more... with more hands, more
hearts and more companions on the journey.
Once, while still in grammar school, when we said something
was impossible, our teacher responded “that doesn’t mean we
can’t do it... the impossible just takes longer.” We believe
that too, “Nothing is impossible for God.”
We all have Our Father’s Heart. What we need to do now is
put our hands together in His to do His work on Earth. All
of us can do so much more together than any of us alone, and
everyone’s part shared makes us whole.

Happy Father’s Day to all Dads everywhere— those still living on
this earth and those
living in the forever of the Heart of God.

A memory from Fr. Stan...

A memory from Fr. Stan...
There
were many Haitian people of the Bahamian Island on which I was in
mission. They had the poorest paying and the most labor-intensive jobs.
They worked hard and long in hot and humid conditions.
As they walked home from work or were packed in the back of a pick-up, it
was easy to see the dirt and sweat of a very hard day’s labor.
Yet,
in a matter of an hour or so they would be in church, all cleaned up on a
weekday night, often more than one night, to pray and practice music for church
or have meetings on how to make church better for all.
I remember asking how they worked so hard and yet found time to come to
church as they did. The response by
one Father, but agreed with by all was:
“We
have so little to give our children,
but
we can give them good example.”
Happy Father’s Day
